    The Gale Company

John Hynes opened a Boston office for The Gale Company in January 1999, when he became its local partner for the Northeast Region. His focus includes investment opportunity evaluation, development site assemblage, brokerage networking, third-party property management and build-to-suit opportunities. He has been active in the Greater Boston commercial real estate community since graduating from college in 1980. As a broker, John has participated in as many office leasing and sales transactions as any active broker in the marketplace today - over 250 transactions, totaling over 6 million square feet involving hundreds of companies. As the local development partner with one of the most respected and diversified service firms in the United States from 1983 to 1993, he completed three office projects totaling 950,000 square feet with an aggregate value in excess of $200 million.

In his first year with The Gale Company, he was responsible for the assemblage, permitting, financing and leasing of One Lincoln Street, a 36-story, $500 million, 1,100,000 square foot office tower in Boston’s Financial District. One Lincoln Street broke ground in April 2000 and was the first speculative office building to be built in the Financial District since 1992. In May of 2001, he successfully consummated a 1,100,000 square foot lease with State Street Corporation. This lease is the largest lease transaction in Boston history. In July 2001 he successfully negotiated and consummated a joint venture agreement with POSCO E&C and the City of Incheon, South Korea for a 1,500-acre master plan development project known as New Songdo City. This project is the first international real estate joint venture in the history of South Korea and is one of the largest master planned development projects in the world. Designed by Kohn Pedersen Fox, this $20 billion, 100 million square foot, 10-year project is in the financing and design development phase as of this writing.

John is a graduate of Harvard University where he was co-captain of the Varsity Hockey Team in 1979/1980 and received several honors and awards. John’s grandfather served as Mayor of Boston from 1949 to 1959 and his father, Jack, has been a long-term fixture in the Boston media community.
